The Gasometer on the EUREF Campus in Berlin is an astonishing feat. The former 19th century listed gasworks has undergone a historic transformation. After 100 years, the former gas storage facility in Berlin Schöneberg has been given a new lease of life creating a truly unique convention and arts venue.

The beautiful, multifunctional auditorium offers 1,110m² of theatre-style seating over 2 levels for up to 980 people. In addition, an impressive 600m² Sky Lounge and roof terrace sit at a height of 66m and offer panoramic views of Berlin for receptions up to 350 guests.

With our German partners at VisionTwo GmbH, GDS Pioneering Light have made significant contributions to this landmark venue. An approach sensitive to the historical considerations of the scheme that offers world leading efficiency, as well as striking colour and quality of light. The result is groundbreaking. Years of prototyping, innovation, and successful collaboration between GDS, VisionTwo GmbH, PIK AG, and the event technology team and EUREF-Campus have delivered something very special.

Solutions Provided

More than 850 GDS lights illuminate this exceptional venue. Installations across the auditorium, foyer and conference room has been carefully coordinated to enhance the architectural character of the building and meet the demands of professional TV studios and production facilities. The concept called for full colour changing capability and colour temperature tuning. GDS’ Sirius range has enabled tunable white illumination from 2700K up to 5000K, and full RGB colour mixing to provide a deep level of customisation for the most ambitious of events.

In addition, this installation is particularly impressive due to its staggering contribution to the sustainable operation of the building. GDS Drive Hub system provides world-leading efficiency figures, delivering notable CO₂ savings and staggering reductions in energy consumption. Coupled with our unique IPM2 protocol which has also been used to provide power, control and data signals over existing cabling arrangements, Gasometer boasts one of the most sustainable, reliable, and intelligent lighting solutions anywhere.
