The Fusion Point One building has recently undergone a multi-million pound redevelopment to deliver new grade A office space to the heart of Cardiff. Sustainability and efficiency were key objectives for the project that boasts this striking feature.

GDS were approached to design and manufacture and bespoke feature piece to the new double-height atrium and reception area of this contemporary redevelopment. We enjoyed direct collaboration with the architect to fully understand the visual intent for the feature and the desires of the client. The six-tiered creation was set at varying inclinations which presented a number of challenges to incorporate power feeds and suspension. By increasing the profile thickness and integrating hinged suspension points, we were able to improve rigidity and minimize this requirement. The equipment was designed, manufactured and delivered to the site in 5 weeks before being expertly installed by our friends at Blues, and commissioned by the GDS engineering team. The Supernova family gave us a great deal of flexibility whilst providing uniform, low glare illumination to this prominent site.

Solutions Provided

The requirement for a feature piece was supplied using a custom variant of our Supernova Halo fitting. The idea was to create a visually stunning centrepiece providing uniform, low-glare illumination. The six tier suspended solution presented a number of install challenges for our experienced in house design team that were promptly overcome in close collaboration with all parties.

"GDS took our idea from concept through all of the details to complete a complex feature to the building. It was really important to get it right as it is the centrepiece of the entrance and we are really pleased with the result"
